The Eyes of a Child

Ahmed Elnajar lives with his parents, two brothers, and three sisters in a small, two-room house within one of the refugee camps in the Gaza Strip. His father, who is unemployed, became concerned about his son after the boy suffered an injury to his right eye from a stone throw. Read Ahmed's story in this week's TPRF blog, "The Gift of Sight."

WORKSHOPS IN BENALMADENA, MALAGA-SPAIN

The Benalmadena Town Hall organizes a workshop on Wellness and Self-knowledge with volunteers from the Peace is Possible

Several professionals will showcase their views on welfare since the values of education for peace, medicine, ecology and creativity.

It is an interactive workshop, open to communication, culture and creativity led by professionals in education , medicine and the arts. The goal is to create an environment of reflexion with practical suggestions to improve general well-being in people.

It will have a monthly basis and is aimed at college students of Seniors University and any interested public.

On February 8th, the workshop was inaugurated in the Center for Lifelong Learning in Benalmadena-Arroyo, by the Councillor for Education and social affairs followed by the first presentation entitled: "News of Gandhi's pacifist ideology values peace "...

Next Tuesday, March 1st Ms. Guillermina Durán, family doctor, will discuss how to combat stress.

On Tuesday April 5th, the topic of consumerism, ecology and volunteering with volunteers from CUDECA-ONG working with terminally ill cancer patients.

On Tuesday May 3rd Self-knowledge and Happiness, will be discussed with a designated rapporteur.

And on Tuesday June 7th, the theme will be "Peace and Beauty " with a concert farewell party.

The contents of the first lecture on contemporary philosophy of Gandhi, to commemorate the January 30, Day of Non-violence, was on the concepts of "active peace, " "nonviolence"and "internalization"of peace as a powerful idea in the implementation of their projects.

Gandhi was a clear example of how peace is effective in resolving conflicts when accompanied by an inner belief and identification with the values of life.
Humanitarian motivation for taking his fellow extreme poverty led Gandhi to consider the values of peace as a tool of progress, freedom and identity for its people.

The values of peace (active peace, dialogue, tolerance and respect for the races, languages and religions) are the complement to the basic values that sustain life (livelihood, work organization and sharing food dela).

Founding Charter N.U. work and further developed by UNESCO, through values education, is the clearest exponent of the term of his pacifist ideals.

The presentation ended with an excerpt from the DVD of the 60 Anniversary of United Nations UNESCO Association in Los Angeles, and the power point prepared by volunteer Dineke for Peace is Possible, "A seed that germinates”.

The event was attended by about 50 people and was an active response by several participants. One of them said they had occasion to speak in England with one of the jailers of Gandhi during the British colonization and said that as an officer felt a great regret to have to confine a person so extraordinarily human. And he called attention to his humanity, humility and gratitude for whatever his jailers did for him.

An introductory program about Message of Peace.............................If you are willing to pay attention… If you are truly willing to listen… If you are truly willing to have that determination to quench this thirst, this is going to be a journey you are going to love. Why? …because this is a journey, the journey that is a journey for its own sake, not a destination oriented journey. No. The sail’s up. The wind has come. And the vessel moves. Because the breath comes... Because you are alive… That is the reason. Make this journey. And the path to fulfillment is based on you, just you. M ♥

While many programs are special, some are...

While many programs are special, some are essential. Words of Peace, which presents Prem Rawat’s message, is one of these unique programs. This program is receiving this distinction because of its important contribution toward building a culture of peace in Brazil. The feeling of peace that Prem Rawat introduces people to is very important for everyone. It is essential to spread this feeling within to everyone in Brazil. This program is a great contribution toward the triumph of inner peace. Prem Rawat’s message has the potential to unite all Brazilians in inner contentment. I know that peace is really possible in Brazil.

~ Mr. Fernando Mauro Trezza, President of the Brazilian Association of Community Television Channels, Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The Governor of the State of New Mexico, having learned of the outstanding achievement and exceptional accomplishments of Maharaji, does hereby extend congratulations and acknowledgement and further does herein direct that this official expression of pride be forthwith sent on behalf of the people of the State of New Mexico.

------------------

The experience of Self-Knowledge is recent for me. Several friends who had received Self-Knowledge gave me videotapes of Maharaji’s lectures. I thought this man was saying something very simple and straight to the heart. Later I watched satellite broadcasts and found myself listening to him nonjudgementally and with simple curiosity. My rational mind kept saying (and at times still does), "Come on, this is a story for people living in another world. Listen if you want, but then you will have to go back to real life." Now, I ask, which is the real life?

----------------------

When in the summer of 1978, I first heard about Knowledge and Prem Rawat, I felt something, but it did not quite register. A year later, when I met someone else who told me more about Knowledge, I again felt something, and this time it was much clearer. I did not understand what I was feeling, but I had such a clear desire to hear more that I went back to talk to this person. After that, I kept listening to Prem Rawat’s addresses on a regular basis.

At that time, Egypt seemed so cut off from the West, but I was able to travel to an event in the United States where I heard Prem Rawat in person for the first time. I felt free and extremely happy from all the inspiration that was being bestowed upon me. I asked for Knowledge, and when I was shown the techniques, the experience was wonderful and transforming.

Recently I took up ceramics — the art of throwing pots on a wheel. In the movie “Ghost” Demi Moore made it look easy. It is anything but.

There are many steps to making a pot.

The first step is wedging the clay — kneading it like dough to remove air bubbles and impurities. Only I can feel when I — and the clay — am ready to proceed.  Wedging makes the clay more malleable, easier to shape into a pitcher, plate, vase or bowl.

This Is Very Simple… I Don’t Understand It!

Those were the words I heard from the security agent sitting opposite me in a small, dingy room at the security police headquarters in Thessaloniki, Greece. I was only eighteen and had been enthusiastically telling people in this city about Maharaji’s message. The only problem was that Greece was under a military dictatorship at that time — people meeting and talking about anything was not allowed.

The cycle of poverty is a downward spiral. Weakened by hunger, its victims lose the strength to work and with it the ability to feed their children. The desperate search for sustenance keeps children away from school and the opportunities that education might provide for a better future. In this way the scourge is passed on from generation to generation.

Sometimes Earplugs Aren't Enough

When I was living on the ‘frontline’ of Brixton, South London — the frontline was Cold Harbour Lane, a multicultural mecca for illicit substance dealers, dance clubs, pubs and food markets — thousands of people passed under my balcony window daily: and the noise didn't stop. I lived opposite a nightclub which would begin after midnight and go on till the early wee hours. I never slept without my earplugs on and to this day, the habit is still with me — even in the tiny and quiet city of Adelaide.

I had planned a week’s break in St. Ives, Cornwall — a favorite sleepy coastal country town to which Londoners flock for ‘peace’ and ‘quiet’ or artists go to capture the glorious light of the landscape on their canvas.

Report: Event in Malibu - February 5, 2011

On Friday, February 4, an email went out to locals of southern California calling for a 4:00 p.m. meeting the following day. That Saturday, as attendees filed into the Malibu High School auditorium, it was obvious that something a little unexpected was about to happen. Photographers roamed, cameramen had already set up their equipment, and the stage held an empty yet familiar chair. After a brief presentation by the head of the Global Peace Initiative Department, Maharaji walked onstage, prompting a standing ovation from the four hundred or so that filled the hall.

Stemming the Spread of Cholera in Haiti

When cholera turned up in Haiti’s Central Plateau last October, it was the first time any cases of the disease had been reported on the island since 1960. Few Haitians knew what caused it or how to prevent it. The outbreak quickly reached epidemic proportions. According to the most recent reports, more than 2,600 have died and at least 120,000 more are infected. Although health officials think the number of new cases will likely peak in the next few months, it could be years before cholera is completely eradicated. It's estimated another 600,000 people could be affected before that happens.
